A Vermont man convicted in the 2001 stabbing deaths of two Dartmouth College professors will appear for a resentencing hearing in Grafton County Superior Court. Robert Tulloch, now 42, was automatically sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty to first-degree murder at age 17.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that mandatory life without parole sentences for juveniles are unconstitutional. Tulloch is asking the court to reduce his sentence to 30 to 40 years. If granted, he could be eligible for release as early as 2031.
Tulloch and his accomplice, James Parker, 16 at the time, drove from their homes in Chelsea, Vermont, to Etna, New Hampshire, where they stabbed Half and Susanne Zantop. Both teens pleaded guilty. Parker was released in 2024 after serving a shorter sentence.
