Vermont State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on US Route 5 in Newbury on the evening of July 21. The operator, Madison Hart, 28, of Topsham, was found at the scene.

Troopers determined Hart failed to navigate a turn, striking a guardrail and coming to rest down an embankment. She suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment. The investigation revealed Hart was under the influence at the time of the crash.

Hart was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Bradford outpost for processing. She was later issued a citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court, Criminal Division on August 5 at 8:30 a.m. A mug shot was taken, and she was released.

NEK will monitor the court proceedings for an update following the August 5 hearing.
