The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, issued a severe thunderstorm warning July 16 at 3:15 p.m., effective until 4 p.m. The warning covers a wide area including southern Grafton County in northern New Hampshire, as well as parts of central New Hampshire and southwestern Maine.
At 3:15 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line from 8 miles northeast of Danbury to near Saco, moving southeast at 30 mph. The primary hazard is 60 mph wind gusts, with possible damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The storms may produce very little or no thunder.
Locations in the affected area include Laconia, Franklin, Meredith, Moultonborough, Ossipee, and Alton in New Hampshire, as well as Lake Winnipesaukee. Highways impacted include Interstate 93 between mile markers 50 and 72. Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
