The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Coos County, effective until 7:45 PM EDT on July 9.

At 6:41 PM EDT, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Lancaster, moving east at 30 mph. The storm carries 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, which can damage vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.

Affected areas include Berlin, Lancaster, Carroll, Gorham, Jefferson, Dalton, Whitefield, Northumberland, Shelburne, Randolph, Milan, Stark, and Riley. Also in the path are Mount Jefferson, Mount Madison, Wildcat Mountain, Carter Notch, and Moose Brook State Park.

Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
