Shortly after 2:25 AM, Vermont State Police received a report of a person with possible suicidal ideation who had gone into the woods in Canaan. The ex-partner of the individual reported the situation and was tracking the person's phone. Units responded to the area and a search was initiated. Police are advising that first responders not enter the woods alone for their own safety. Further details are limited at this time.

At approximately 3:08 AM, dispatchers coordinated foot entry toward coordinates on a road in the area. The complainant clarified that the individual had previously made statements about ending his life but believed them to be manipulative at the time. The individual was reported to have no weapons and no intent to harm others. His location was reported to have changed, and a vehicle description of a Subaru BRZ may be associated.

By around 4:55 AM, units reported arriving at the standing coordinates but were unable to locate the individual. Dispatchers coordinated further location checks. At approximately 5:00 AM, searchers noted a possible camp to the edge of a nearby field and were working to verify its location.

By approximately 5:20 AM, units reported that they had searched the area and were unable to locate the individual. The complainant was advised to contact family and friends to check on the person's whereabouts. The search has been concluded for now, and the incident remains under investigation.
