At approximately 8:49 PM, Vermont State Police issued an extreme caution advisory for a vehicle in Newport City. The vehicle, described as a red Dodge Ram 1500 with possible plate 507A933, was reported to contain three possible firearms. The advisory was in effect for a vehicle at 40 Patnoet Court. Police ordered a stop and hold for Newport.

At approximately 9:20 PM, dispatch clarified the vehicle as a maroon Dodge Ram 1500. By 9:23 PM, the vehicle was located at Walk and Roll near the Ford dealership in Newport. The plate was initially reported as New York Lima Echo Papa 9-6-9-1 (LEP 9691). At 9:25 PM, police reported the vehicle was occupied. Officers were preparing to make an approach.

At 9:26 PM, dispatch received a correction on the plate, identifying it as New York Lincoln Fox Papa 9-6-9-1 (LFP 9691). The vehicle was further identified as a red 2021 Ram 1500, registered to an address in Wells, New York. Dispatch received conflicting reports on whether the vehicle was occupied, but the situation remained ongoing as of 9:30 PM.
