NEWPORT Environmental scientists from the US and Quebec will present findings on chemical contamination in the Lake Memphremagog watershed at a public event Wednesday, June 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The presentation, titled “Lake Memphremagog: Learning the Facts and Finding Solutions,” will be held in person at North Country High School Career Center, Room 380, and via Zoom.
The five scientists will discuss risks from pollutants including PFAS (“forever chemicals”) and other toxic substances. Research indicates that landfill leachate discharge is among the sources of contamination, with chemicals that can build up in fish and affect human health for those who drink or eat from the lake.
