After nine consecutive days of measurable precipitation, the Northeast Kingdom may finally get a break. A total of 2.42 inches of rain fell during the most recent stretch, keeping highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, a few degrees below the seasonal average.

An active weather day on June 18 brought torrential downpours and a rare tornado watch for the region. The National Weather Service confirmed two EF1 tornadoes touched down in central and southern Vermont, one near Lincoln and another with a path over a mile long in the Woodstock-Bridgewater area. No major flooding was reported locally.

A building area of high pressure is expected to bring partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-70s on Wednesday before an approaching low from the Great Lakes introduces rain again Thursday night into Friday. The weekend outlook calls for improving conditions, with isolated mountain showers Saturday and mostly sunny skies Sunday. Forecasters say 80-degree days are not expected this week.
