GRAFTON COUNTY, N.H., Emergency crews responded to two separate incidents Saturday, one of which left one person dead.
First, a water rescue on the Pemigewassett River near Sugar Shack Campground in Thornton. A tuber slipped on a rock, fell, and injured their hip, becoming unable to move in the water. Responders used a banana boat to bring the person to shore. The individual was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
During that rescue, a second call came in for a cardiac arrest on Welch-Dickey Loop Trail in Waterville Valley. Pemigewassett Search and Rescue, New Hampshire Fish and Game, and Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety ambulance responded. The person did not survive.
