Vermont State Police arrested a 35-year-old transient man in Newbury on June 9 after responding to a reported burglary.

Trooper Rodzel of the St. Johnsbury Barracks said officers arrived at a residence on US Route 302 around 7:05 a.m. and saw Jefferey Emerson run from a neighboring house. Emerson was wanted on three active arrest warrants, police said. Troopers chased him on foot and quickly took him into custody without anyone being hurt. Police said Emerson also threatened one of the people at the scene.

Emerson was taken to the State Police Bradford outpost for processing, then arraigned at Orange County Criminal Court in Chelsea later that day. He was ordered held at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury on $15,000 bail.

NEK will be looking into the circumstances of the initial burglary report and the specific charges on the outstanding warrants.
