CRAFTSBURY, The NEK Warriors Soccer Club (NEKWSC) held a full schedule of matches on Dustan Field Sunday, with six squads in action across age levels from U8 to senior coed.
The U10 Boys opened the day with an 8-2 victory over Stowe, led by goalkeeper Ty Billings. The U10 Girls fell 5-3 to Northfield despite two goals from Ruthie Podolin and one from Willa Nunery. The U8 squad faced Orleans County FC in its first club match for many players.
The U12 Boys lost a tight 2-1 contest to Mansfield United, with Jasper Valcour-Greenia applying late pressure. The U12 Girls closed their league season with a 5-1 win over Onion River, finishing with a 4-1-1 record. The senior coed team, U14+, beat Orleans County FC 5-1, with 14-year-old Mason Koteas scoring twice and Amelia Rodriguez and Adrienne Robillard anchoring defense.
Club coordinator Steve Fortmann outlined three expectations for players: get along with teammates, help develop others, and communicate. "We focus on development, helping each player grow in a team environment while building community connections," Fortmann said.
The Warriors will close their season with the third annual PolyWhey Cup, presented by Vermont Natural Coatings, on June 20 or 21 at Hazen Union School Varsity Field. The club also plans three summer soccer camps in Craftsbury, including a preseason prep camp with guest coaches from CF Valencia Spain.
