The Hazen Union girls basketball program is participating in multiple summer leagues and AAU tournaments this offseason, head coach Randy Lumsden said.
The Lady Cats, who won their second Division III state championship in three years last March, tipped off the Lamoille Summer League for a third straight year with a game against Mount Mansfield on Monday. They also joined the Peoples Academy (PA) League this summer, having already faced Lake Region. The team will attend Norwich University Team Camp on July 17-19.
Four seniors, Kelsie Rivard, Mya Lumsden, Taylor Thompson, and Autumn Dailey, have been competing in the Lone Wolf AAU program throughout the summer. Rivard, a 1,000-point scorer and reigning Capital League Player of the Year, had 30 points and 24 rebounds in the state title game. The players returned from an AAU tournament in Massachusetts last weekend and will play in Spooky Nook, Pennsylvania, on July 24-27.
The Cat Den will host skill sessions for grades 8-12 two nights a week, and Lumsden will also work with elementary players during the day.
