Hardwick Police responded to three incidents over four days in late June.
On June 23 at 5:16 p.m., officers went to a deer strike on Route 16 near Touch of Grace Church. The driver, James Dyer, was uninjured. His 2021 Toyota Tacoma sustained damage to the front driver side fender, headlight, grill and bumper. The deer was not located.
On June 25 at 7:54 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Route 15 East after a violation on Route 16. The driver, Lucas Molleur of East Hardwick, was found to be operating with a criminally suspended license. He was cited to appear in Caledonia Superior Court, Criminal Division, for arraignment.
On June 27 at 11:16 a.m., emergency crews responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Route 16 and Belfry Road. The occupants of a 2017 Kia Sportage were trapped and needed to be extricated. The driver, Elain Badger of Wolcott, and passenger Betty Tulip of White River Junction were taken to Copley Hospital by Hardwick Rescue. The driver of a 2020 Ram 2500, Erik Boelens, was not injured. Investigation determined that Badger, traveling west on Belfry Road, pulled out in front of Boelens, who was northbound on Route 16. Boelens braked and turned left but could not avoid the collision. Both vehicles suffered major front-end damage.
