Forty-six firefighters and rescue personnel from six Vermont departments gathered June 20 behind the Hardwick Fire Station for a joint vehicle extrication and rescue training exercise. Participants came from Hardwick, Greensboro, Woodbury, Wolcott, Cabot and Elmore.

All Metals Recycling donated, delivered and removed the vehicles used for the mock accident scenarios. During the session, Greensboro Fire Captain Andrew Casavant demonstrated deploying a passenger airbag. Hardwick Fire Chief Perley Allen led a discussion afterward on what worked and what could be improved.

The training aimed to make personnel from different departments more familiar with each other’s equipment and procedures so they can operate as a single team when mutual aid is requested.
