A Lowell man has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with an ATV crash that killed a 22-year-old woman, according to Vermont State Police.
Randy Lemieux, 27, was arrested after the June 25 accident on Newton Road in Newport. Trooper Logan Miller responded to a 911 call around 10:20 p.m. from a woman who said Lemieux had come home covered in blood and told her he crashed his side-by-side ATV and that his passenger, Maddison Hayden of Woodbury, had been thrown out and was not breathing, according to an affidavit.
Newport Ambulance personnel arrived before Miller and pronounced Hayden dead at the scene. Miller found a Polaris RZR on its side in the road with a large pool of blood nearby and drag marks leading to the woods where Hayden lay. Tire tracks indicated the vehicle left the road at a corner, struck trees, and then went off the opposite side, the affidavit states.
NEK will be looking into the status of Lemieux's court case and any prior incidents involving the same ATV.
