A group of track and field athletes from North Country Union High School and Lake Region Union High School competed over the weekend at the New England High School Track and Field Championships at Noble High School in Berwick, Maine. Lake Region senior Maeda Urie recorded the highest finish among local competitors, placing 19th in the long jump and 26th in the triple jump.
For North Country, junior Cullin Ward participated in two throwing events, placing 23rd in the shot put and 25th in the discus. On the girls' side, North Country sophomore Myrah Kearse finished 26th in the 300-meter hurdles. Kearse was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team with Rosy Carvalho, Marlo Maxwell, and Farrah Pepin, which placed 29th. The North Country 4x400-meter relay team of Maxwell, Pepin, Dylan Carr, and Tristan Martin placed 26th.
The final event of the Vermont high school track season, the decathlon, is scheduled for this week. Results will be reported when available.
