LYNDON, The Kingdom Trail Association has acquired and conserved a 271-acre parcel on Darling Hill Road, protecting seven miles of trail that are central to its network. The land includes a portion previously owned by Ariel Quiros, along with acreage from longtime owners Martha Corrock and Finn Gunderson.
The acquisition was made possible by a community effort involving the Vermont Land Trust, the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, an anonymous $150,000 donation, and contributions from more than 740 local businesses and individuals. The property stretches from Darling Hill Road to the East Branch of the Passumpsic River, offering views of Burke Mountain and access to Heaven's Bench, a popular rest stop.
A conservation easement held by the Vermont Land Trust and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board will keep the land undeveloped and open for recreation, farming, forestry, and education. Kingdom Trails sees up to 135,000 annual visits and generates over $10 million in economic activity for the region, according to a 2016 study.
“We are so grateful to all who have helped us to purchase this spectacular land on Darling Hill and to join the 100 other landowners who make Kingdom Trails possible,” said Abby Long, executive director of the Kingdom Trail Association.
