A new indoor sports facility opened July 24 at the Green Mountain Mall in St. Johnsbury, offering batting cages, multi-sport simulators, and space for year-round activities regardless of weather.
The Swing Sportsplex, owned by Jenna and Jeremy Lawrence, features two simulators that can be used for soccer, hockey, golf, and other sports. Food and drinks are available on site.
“I really am excited for our community and for our youth to have something to do throughout the entire year, no matter what the season, no matter what the weather,” Jenna Lawrence said.
Grayson Bias, a Lyndon Institute student, said the facility builds community. “Everyone is from different teams. They might not get along on the field, but as soon as you are off the field and you are practicing, everyone can just connect on one thing,” Bias said.
The mall has struggled since JCPenney closed, but St. Johnsbury Assistant Town Manager Joe Kasprzak said the arrival of RK Miles as an anchor tenant helped turn things around. “It was transformational up at the Green Mountain Mall, and in fact for that whole area of St. Johnsbury Center,” Kasprzak said.
The sportsplex is open every day except Mondays and plans to add coaching clinics and adult leagues in the future.
