Vermont State Police have arrested an Island Pond man on domestic assault charges following an incident that occurred in the early hours of May 21. Dwayne Calloway, 43, faces two counts of first-degree aggravated domestic assault and one count of committing an offense in the presence of a child.
According to a police press release, troopers received a late report of a family fight at a residence on Railroad Street in the Village of Island Pond. The investigation indicated that Calloway allegedly attempted to cause serious bodily injury to a family member while a minor was present. Police did not disclose the victim's name, in keeping with standard practice for domestic violence cases.
Calloway was located in St. Johnsbury shortly afterward and taken into custody without incident by troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks. He was processed at the Derby Barracks and later ordered held without bail at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport.
Calloway is scheduled to appear in Essex County Superior Court on June 10 at 12:30 p.m. The case was investigated by Trooper James Gallup.
NEK will be looking into the criminal complaint for further details on the alleged assault.
