The Greensboro Town Hall gymnasium, closed to the public for many years, will host an open house on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., following the Funky Fourth Parade. The event marks the first time in years the space has been accessible.
At a meeting last week, the Greensboro Select Board granted permission for limited access to the upstairs gymnasium. The decision follows preliminary results of an architectural and engineering report that found no major structural deficiencies. A full report is expected soon.
A group of volunteers cleaned the gymnasium on Friday, June 26, in preparation for the open house. The crew included Dede Stabler, Sara Lammert, Burr Gray, Jennifer Ranz, Michael Malick, Xin Yang, Rob Brigham, Helen Beattie, John Schweizer, Ila Hunt, Tanya Thomas, Peter Romans, Ricky Albores, Naomi Ranz-Schleifer, Elias Ranz-Schleifer, and Will Riggs.
The open house will also offer tours of the upstairs floor until 2 p.m., giving residents a chance to see the space and discuss potential future uses.
NEK will be looking into the full architectural report when it is released.
