Greensboro's annual Funky Fourth Independence Day celebration on July 4 brought more than 2,000 people to the village green and along the parade route. The mile-long procession included floats, antique cars, tractors, and local organizations, starting from Country Club Road down Breezy Avenue to the town hall green.
The parade was led by the Greensboro Ladies Walking Society dressed as suffragettes. Notable participants included former Boston Red Sox pitcher Bill “Spaceman” Lee, riding in a convertible, and state Rep. Leanne Harple, who later took a turn in the dunk tank during the free community picnic. The Michaud family showed 11 antique tractors from 1941 to 1979.
After the parade, a free town picnic served bratwurst, hot dogs, veggie sandwiches, and Kingdom Creamery ice cream to about 700 people. The event also raised more than $1,500 for the Hardwick Area Food Pantry through donations and a dessert auction. Music was provided by the Blue-Sky Brothers and later by the Sky Blue Boys.
The celebration concluded with a free concert by the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra at the Highland Center for the Arts, attended by an estimated 350 people. Throughout the day, attendees could visit historical society open houses, a library book sale, and a children's treasure hunt at the United Church of Christ.
