DERBY, Fred's Energy ran a holiday toy drive at its three offices this season, collecting donations for three local charities and offering donors a chance to win fuel and a gift tower.
The Derby office collected toys for the NEKCA and Northpoint "Toys for Kids" program. The Morrisville office supported the Lamoille Family Center's "Holiday Project," and the Lyndonville office collected for the St. Johnsbury Fire Department's "Kingdom Santa Fund."
For each toy donated, participants could enter a drawing. Ryan Pelow of the St. Johnsbury Fire Department drew Donald Raboin's name from the Lyndonville entries. Raboin gave the 100 gallons of propane or oil to a parent in need.
Wendy Chauvin of the Lamoille Family Center drew Sarah Denis' name from the Morrisville entries. Denis donated the fuel back to the Lamoille Family Center for someone in need.
Michaela Fields won the Derby office drawing. Rachel Twofoot from Northpoint and Mary Hamel from NEKCA selected Fields' name during toy pickup.
"This time of year can be a struggle for many, yet numerous local families were helped because of your incredible thoughtfulness," Fred's Energy said in a statement.
