The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Barton River near Coventry in Orleans County. The warning began June 19 at 3:48 PM EDT and remains in effect until June 20 at 12:20 AM EDT.

Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue. At 3:30 PM June 19, the river stage was measured at 8.3 feet, above the flood stage of 8.0 feet. The maximum stage in the prior 24 hours was 8.5 feet. The river is expected to fall below flood stage this evening and continue dropping to 5.5 feet by the morning of June 20.

At 8.0 feet, Maple Street and River Road between Orleans and Coventry Station are typically flooded, with extensive field and lowland flooding common. The current crest compares to a previous crest of 9.6 feet on December 19, 2023.

The NWS advises drivers to turn around rather than drive through flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Residents who observe flooding are asked to report it to local emergency services so the information can be passed to the National Weather Service.
