A bright meteor streaked across the northern Vermont sky on Sunday evening, burning up above Beach Hill in Glover, according to NASA. The fireball, classified as a very bright meteor similar in brightness to the planet Venus, was seen at around 5:38 p.m. and produced a loud bang upon entering the atmosphere.

NASA Meteor Watch calculated that the meteor first appeared about 52 miles above Mount Mansfield State Forest. It traveled northeast at approximately 42,000 miles per hour, covering 33 miles across the upper atmosphere before disintegrating 33 miles above Beach Hill.

More than 100 people reported seeing the event, NASA said. The meteor was estimated to weigh close to 10 pounds with a diameter of roughly six inches.
