Evacuation at Dow Academy in Franconia

At approximately 1:51 AM on June 1, dispatchers received multiple fire alarm activations at 28 Academy Street and 32 Academy Street in Franconia, showing water flow. Franconia Fire Department units responded to the scene. At 1:57 AM, units arrived and reported a three-story wood-frame multi-family building at 28 Academy and a two-story wood-frame building at 32 Academy, with nothing showing. Command was established.

By approximately 2:54 AM, an evacuation of the building was ordered, and a person in room 5 at 28 Academy Street, identified as the Dow Academy building, refused to leave. According to first responders, the fire chief was on scene along with building management, and the individual called 911 to report he was not leaving his home. Units are working to resolve the situation. The cause of the alarm remains under investigation.
