After 15 months of closure due to the pandemic, Catamount Arts is preparing a wide-ranging summer schedule that includes live performances, outdoor art installations, and educational camps. The organization, which shut its Eastern Avenue center in March 2020, will reopen its Fried Family Gallery in June with a new exhibition and resume weekend film screenings.
Pandemic-inspired innovations such as walkable outdoor galleries and moving sidewalk fairs will continue. Catamount has also refurbished a 20,000-square-foot former retail space at the Green Mountain Mall, now called Catamount ArtPort, which features upgraded ventilation and pod seating. The Adam Ezra Group is scheduled to perform there June 11.
Live music is a central focus, with a priority on booking Vermont musicians who lost touring income last year. The Hey St. J! #GetDownTown street fair series begins June 12, offering free performances staggered among downtown locations. The Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury Music Series returns to Dog Mountain on July 11, running free concerts every weekend through September 4. Scheduled acts include HuDost, Chad Hollister, and Kotoko Brass.
Arts education opportunities include Harvey's Lake Water Ski Camp for ages 4, 17 running July 5, 7, EPIC Music Summer Camp June 15, 18 and June 21, 25, and North Country Youth Chorus Camp August 16, 20. A new Mural Camp will be announced later.
The Summer Solstice Raffle offers a Mahindra tractor, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, or $10,000 cash. Drawing is July 1. Full schedules and registration are available at catamountarts.org.
