Catamount Arts and Northern Vermont University are teaming up to offer drive-in movies and concerts this summer at both NVU campuses in Lyndon and Johnson, the organizations announced June 4.
The series, set to begin in mid-July, is intended to provide entertainment while reducing COVID-19 risks by keeping audiences in their cars. Audio will be broadcast over NVU campus radio stations, accessible via FM radio even for those not attending in person.
“Drive-in movies are classic entertainment,” said Jody Fried of Catamount Arts. “We’re looking forward to bringing back that retro, nostalgic family fun. Live concerts will be a new spin on the drive-in experience, and maybe soften the blow of having to postpone this year’s Dog Mountain concerts.”
The series will feature regional bands exclusively, providing paid gigs for local musicians. “Artists are struggling right now,” Fried said. “If we can make our creative economy a closed loop, that’s something we can all feel good about.”
Fried said details on specific films, bands, and schedules are still being finalized.
