The Burklyn Arts Council will hold its annual craft fair on Saturday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bandstand Park in downtown Lyndonville. The event will proceed rain or shine, with state COVID-19 protocols in place.
The fair features juried crafts, children's activities, live music, food, and the organization's signature strawberry shortcake. All proceeds support arts grants and scholarships for schools and communities within the Kingdom East Unified School District.
Exhibitors must pass a rigorous jury process, according to Burklyn Arts Co-Chair Susan Gallagher. “Crafts are evaluated for originality, excellence of workmanship, mastery of their medium, technical proficiency, and aesthetics,” she said. “The process is difficult but necessary to maintain Burklyn’s high standards.”
The fair is the first of two annual fundraisers; the second is held in December. Together they provide financial assistance to 14 towns in the district, covering costs such as professional performances, artist residencies, school supplies, and scholarships. Awards include the Jim Doyle Eighth Grade Scholarships and the Elizabeth Brouha Senior Scholarship, which can be as large as $2,000.
Burklyn is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff.
