A Barton man is facing multiple charges after he returned to a residence he had been ordered to leave, barricaded himself inside and threatened to kill law enforcement, according to Vermont State Police.
Troopers served Wyatt Gilman, 26, of Lyndonville, with a temporary abuse prevention order at a residence on Cook Road in Barton on July 19 at approximately 9 p.m., ejecting him from the property. Around 11 p.m., troopers were notified that Gilman had reentered the residence. When troopers arrived, Gilman briefly fled before barricading himself inside. Police said he had made threats to kill law enforcement and was believed to have access to a firearm.
Additional troopers, including members of the Tactical Services Unit, Bomb Squad, Crisis Negotiation Unit and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program, along with Newport Police and Orleans Ambulance Service, responded. The residence was surrounded as Gilman refused orders to exit.
At approximately 2:15 a.m. on July 20, troopers deployed an unmanned aircraft into the residence under a search warrant. Gilman then attempted to flee on foot. After a brief pursuit, troopers caught him and said he resisted arrest. He was taken into custody without further incident and lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail.
Gilman is charged with violating an abuse prevention order, unlawful trespass of an occupied dwelling, resisting arrest and violation of conditions of release. He is scheduled to appear in Orleans County Superior Court on July 20 at 12:30 p.m.
