The Northeast Kingdom Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation has awarded $115,800 in grants to 27 organizations across Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia counties for fall 2020.
The grants support education, food access, the arts, and outdoor engagement. Sarah Waring, vice president for grants and community investments at the foundation, said the organization doubled down on its support for the region during the pandemic. “Nonprofits and communities in the region have shown incredible resilience and creativity in the face of this pandemic, and we are proud to help their efforts to keep residents safe and connected,” Waring said in a statement.
Recipients include Abenaki Helping Abenaki ($5,000 for a cultural center), Albany Community Trust ($5,000 for reopening the Albany General Store), and Canaan Naturally Connected ($5,000 for temporary housing for those displaced by homelessness or abuse). Other grants went to school programs, food pantries, outdoor recreation groups, and organizations supporting addiction recovery and disability services.
