Hardwick police responded to three separate incidents over a five-day period in late June. On June 23 at 5:16 p.m., officers were called to a deer strike on Route 16 near Touch of Grace Church. The driver, James Dyer, was uninjured. The deer was not located. His 2021 Toyota Tacoma sustained damage to the front driver-side fender, headlight assembly, grill and bumper.
On June 25 at 7:54 a.m., a traffic stop on Route 15 East in Hardwick led to a citation for Lucas Molleur of East Hardwick. Police say Molleur was driving with a criminally suspended license. He is due to appear in Caledonia Superior Court, Criminal Division, for arraignment.
On June 27 at 11:16 a.m., police, fire and rescue crews responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Route 16 and Belfry Road. Occupants of a 2017 Kia Sportage were trapped and had to be cut from the vehicle. The Kia's operator, Elain Badger of Wolcott, and her passenger, Betty Tulip of White River Junction, were taken to Copley Hospital by Hardwick Rescue. The driver of a 2020 Ram 2500, Erik Boelens, was out of the vehicle and reported no injuries. An investigation determined that Badger, traveling west on Belfry Road, attempted to turn onto Route 16 and pulled into the path of Boelens' northbound truck. Boelens braked and swerved left but could not avoid the collision. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.
