Vermont State Police say a St. Johnsbury man assaulted a healthcare worker at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital early Tuesday morning, also violating his court-ordered conditions of release.

Troopers responded to the hospital around 5 a.m. on May 26 after receiving a report that a staff member had been assaulted. Their investigation led them to Scott Machuga, 43, whom they determined had assaulted a protected professional as defined by Vermont law. Police also found the conduct violated conditions of release imposed by a court in an earlier case.

Machuga was issued a criminal citation ordering him to appear in Caledonia Superior Court Criminal Division on June 15 at 8:30 a.m. He was not taken into custody.
