Voters in the Orleans-4 district chose Rep. Katherine Sims over fellow incumbent Rep. Vicki Strong on Tuesday. Sims captured about 60 percent of the vote, winning by 450 votes. The district includes Albany, Craftsbury, Greensboro, and Glover.

“The results show strong support for our vision for our communities and demonstrate the power of a grassroots campaign to bring people together to talk about the important issues we face,” Sims said.

Elsewhere in Orleans County, Brian Smith defeated Aimee Alexander in the Orleans-1 race by 381 votes. David Templeman and Woody Page will represent the Orleans-2 and Orleans-3 districts. Mark Higley and Michael Marcotte won the Orleans-Lamoille district, and Larry Labor took the Essex-Orleans district, defeating Peggy Stevens by 396 votes.

In state Senate races, incumbent Democrat Bobby Starr won the newly created Orleans district, beating Republican Samuel Douglass by 1,496 votes. Starr will begin his 18th year in the Vermont Senate in 2023. Republican incumbent Russ Ingalls ran unopposed and was reelected to the Essex district.
