LYNDONVILLE, Sarah Roy, head coach of the North Country Union High School girls varsity basketball team, has been elected president of the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association (VBCA), the organization announced June 23.

Roy, a Lyndon State College graduate and a member of the VBCA board for the past five years, also serves as student engagement coordinator at North Country. Her teams have compiled a 110-17 record over six seasons, including a perfect 24-0 campaign in 2023 and two Division II state championships. She was named VBCA Division II Coach of the Year in 2023 and 2025.

“I am incredibly honored to represent the VBCA as the next president,” Roy said. “The VBCA’s motto, ‘Making Basketball Better in Vermont,’ is more than a phrase: it is a mission we as coaches and educators live every day.”

VBCA Executive Director Eric Berry said Roy “embodies everything the VBCA stands for. Her passion for developing student-athletes, her success as a coach and her commitment to growing the game make her an outstanding choice to lead our organization.”

Roy is also the founder and coach of Kingdom Storm AAU Basketball and director of the Legacy Basketball Camp. Former North Country standout Sue (Micknak) Rivard, now an assistant coach at Hazen Union, praised the selection, calling Roy “passionate, highly knowledgeable and a strong leader.”

The VBCA represents coaches across Vermont, providing professional development and recognition programs.
