RuralEdge will host a leasing event for the Newport Crossing apartments on Wednesday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 119 Clermont Terrace in Newport. The nonprofit housing developer is offering application assistance and tours of the properties to anyone interested in renting a unit.

The development includes 40 new affordable housing units spread across two sites: newly built family-sized townhouses and garden flats near Newport Town School, and renovated smaller units in the historic Sacred Heart Convent, which offers lake views and easy access to downtown. Amenities include electric vehicle chargers, bike racks, community rooms, and property-wide Wi-Fi.

Rents range from $933 to $1,343 per month, covering heat, hot water, electric, air conditioning, trash removal, parking, and on-site laundry. There are no rental subsidies; affordability is achieved through federal, state, and private investments. Multiple income levels qualify, and RuralEdge encourages all interested community members to apply.

To attend, RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Contact (802) 535-3555 or apply online at ruraledge.org/apply. A public open house and groundbreaking ceremony are planned for later this summer.

The event is co-hosted by the Northeast Kingdom Collaborative, which has identified housing as a top regional priority and runs the Housing Hubbub initiative to coordinate housing efforts.
