Richford defeated Caledonia United 13-0 in the opening round of the Division IV state softball tournament last Wednesday, handing the combined Twinfield-Cabot-Danville team its third loss to the defending champions this season.
Sophia Derby threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 10 batters to earn the win. Mia St. Pierre led the Richford offense with three hits, including a two-run triple that broke the game open in the fifth inning. St. Pierre finished with four RBIs. Adi Chagnon also tripled, and Jazzy Cunningham drove in two runs. Richford drew five walks and stole nine bases.
Alaina Robbins took the loss for Caledonia United, which ends the season with a 4-9 record.
Richford fell to second-seeded Blue Mountain 12-1 in the quarterfinals over the weekend. The Lady Bucks will face No. 3 Leland & Gray in one Division IV semifinal, while West Rutland takes on No. 4 Proctor in the other.
