HARDWICK, For the second consecutive year, the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) has been named a Gold Level District of Distinction by the Northeast Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (NEPBIS) Network. OSSU was the only Vermont district to receive the award this year.
The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework is a schoolwide approach that emphasizes teaching and acknowledging positive behaviors to create a safe and equitable learning environment. All OSSU schools use strategies such as weekly community meetings, individual recognition, and point-based celebrations to reinforce positive conduct.
“We are honored to once again be recognized as a Gold-Level District of Distinction by NEPBIS,” said Kelly Locke, OSSU assistant director of student services. “This achievement reflects the collective commitment not only of this team, but of our educators, staff, and students, to fostering supportive learning environments where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to succeed. By intentionally integrating PBIS, MTSS, community schools, and restorative practices, we are building one cohesive approach to support our entire school community.”
The OSSU PBIS team includes representatives from Hazen Union School, Hardwick Elementary, Woodbury Elementary, Wolcott Elementary, Craftsbury Schools, and the central office.
