The Northland Journal, a monthly magazine covering Northeast Kingdom history, will cease publication after its July 2026 issue, publisher Scott Wheeler announced June 23. The publication is consolidating with the North Star Monthly of Danville.

Wheeler said subscribers to the Journal will receive their first issue of the North Star in early August. The decision follows the death of his wife Penny in 2022 and a recent illness that Wheeler said made him reconsider his priorities.

“I got a taste of my mortality, and I didn’t like the taste,” Wheeler wrote. “Now fully recovered, I am doing just that: changing the course of my life.”

North Star publisher Justin Lavely welcomed Journal readers, saying in a social media post, “We know how loyal your readership is, and we hope to earn their attention and support in the years ahead.”

Wheeler said he plans to work on books and freelance writing. He can be reached at [email protected].
