The Newport City Council has appointed seven residents to a short-term Charter Task Force that will review the city charter and return with recommendations by August. The group will hold public hearings this fall, with potential charter changes ready for a vote on November 3.
The council created the task force at its Monday meeting after eight residents expressed interest following the June 1 council meeting where the committee was first proposed. The council then entered executive session to discuss candidates before appointing Denis Chenette, Lizzy Alexander, Dani Grant, Mike Marcotte, Charlie Pronto, Travis Gaines, and Sharon Pare. Pare and Pronto will serve as co-chairs.
