On June 21, 1788, New Hampshire ratified the U.S. Constitution, becoming the ninth state and meeting the minimum requirement for the constitution to take effect.

Exactly 185 years later, on June 21, 1973, Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi broke away from an international conference in Canada to visit Lake Placid. She was visiting an old friend who had retired in the Adirondacks.
