A portrait of the Monteith family, likely taken in the 1880s at Stockwell Studio in Newport, Vermont, was recently rediscovered in the archives of the Goodrich Memorial Library.
Researcher Beth Barnes found the photograph in back issues of Vermont's Northland Journal. The image shows William J. Monteith, his wife Martha Leonard Monteith, and one of their daughters.
The discovery sheds light on one of Newport's early families. William Monteith, who emigrated from Ireland via Quebec at age 18, later settled in Vermont with his family.
