A recently surfaced historical photograph shows Monteith Mill in Evansville, a hamlet of Brownington, as it appeared in the early 1900s. The image, credited to the Old Stone House Museum & Historic Village, captures the mill after William Monteith purchased the former Foster sawmill in 1910. Monteith, an Irish immigrant who crossed into Vermont from Quebec at age 18, worked his way up from a mill laborer to mill owner over several decades.

The photograph offers a glimpse into the region's industrial past and the story of one family's rise in the Northeast Kingdom. The Old Stone House Museum holds the image as part of its collection documenting local history.
