The Vermont State Police have located the body of Nicole Richardson, 39, of Troy, who had been missing since June 26. She was found in the Clyde River near Vermont Route 105 in West Charleston on the evening of June 30.

According to police, troopers were conducting follow-up investigation into Richardson’s disappearance when they received a report of a woman in distress in the river. A bystander and a Vermont game warden retrieved the woman from the water a short distance downriver. She was unresponsive when brought to shore and was taken by ambulance to North Country Hospital in Newport, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the death does not appear suspicious and is believed to be an accidental drowning. Independent witness statements indicate Richardson voluntarily entered the river and was quickly overcome by the swift current.

Her body has been sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Richardson was last seen June 26 around 8 p.m. at a residence on Pepin Road in Brownington. She was expected to drive to Loop Road in Troy but never arrived. Anyone with information is asked to call the Vermont State Police Derby barracks at 802-334-8881, option 3.
