The Glover Selectboard on Thursday approved the purchase of stop log systems for two doors at the town hall, using FEMA funding to prevent basement flooding. The board also addressed a damaged exterior wall not included in original remediation. Town Administrator Theresa Perron will discuss the wall with FEMA representatives; board liaison Anne Eldgridge has discretion to approve repairs if FEMA includes the work and costs fit within remaining funds.
Under Act 162, which takes effect July 1, selectboards will no longer appoint fire wardens. Instead, town fire chiefs will serve as wardens. The law also establishes a statewide definition of campfires and requires towns to pay upfront for wildfire suppression on state land, then seek reimbursement from the state.
More details from the meeting are expected in the Tuesday, June 30 edition of the Newport Daily Express.
NEK will be looking into how neighboring towns are adjusting to the fire warden appointment changes under Act 162.
