At approximately 2:23 PM, emergency responders were dispatched to 340 Longfellow Drive in Bethlehem for a medical emergency. According to initial reports, the patient was experiencing difficulty breathing and had a history of congestive heart failure. Littleton Fire Department provided mutual aid, and Bethlehem Ambulance responded. The patient was located on the first floor. At 2:26 PM, a Bethlehem ambulance transported the patient to Littleton Regional Hospital. Additional units arrived on scene, including a utility unit at 2:36 PM and Littleton Utility 1 at 2:37 PM. At 2:38 PM, a request was made for a stretcher and first-in bag at the scene. A unit cleared from Longfellow Drive at 2:39 PM.

At 2:55 PM, Littleton Ambulance 3 was on scene and requested additional staffing to assist with the patient. At 2:58 PM, Ambulance 3 was directed to a mile map on Longfellow Drive. At 3:02 PM, units were merging onto Main Street in Bethlehem heading toward the interstate. At 3:04 PM, Littleton Ambulance 1 was advised to go in service while passing exit 42.
