The Lake Morey Summer Concert Series kicked off June 18 in Fairlee, drawing early crowds despite thunderstorm warnings earlier in the day. The free series, now in its sixth year, runs through Aug. 27 with shows primarily on Thursday nights, plus a few Tuesday and Wednesday performances.
This season's lineup includes Shaggy, Natasha Bedingfield and Andy Grammer, along with local acts. The series began in 2021 as a community thank-you for pandemic resilience and has grown steadily.
Attendance growth prompted parking concerns from some residents in recent years. Fairlee Selectboard member Peter Berger said those issues have been addressed through the town's Festival Ordinance, which requires organizers to submit site layouts before large events. Parking attendant Mark Richardson, returning this summer, said he has not experienced problems and that crowds have been well-behaved.
Local vendors are also part of the weekly event. Deborah Rossell, owner of Ice Palace, sells homemade sorbet and vegan soups at the concerts. "This is my whole business," Rossell said. "I do farmers markets, events, concerts, whatever I can get into."
The series is presented in partnership with Catamount Arts.
