This is a developing story. Details are preliminary and subject to change as more information becomes available.

At approximately 5:24 AM, emergency crews were dispatched to Howard Island on the Connecticut River for a report of three kayakers trapped on the island. According to initial reports, the kayakers reached the island but one of their kayaks became caught in a downed tree at the north end of the island. They camped out for the night but are now concerned they will not be able to leave before an incoming storm. Responders are accessing the island near the Grafton County Nursing Home. Units from Twin State Fire Department and Fast K-1 are responding. Marine patrol has been notified. A subsequent report advises that the access point is flooded and will not allow boats to get close enough. Details are limited at this time. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
