An 80-year-old hiker from Quebec was airlifted from Mount Lincoln on Wednesday after experiencing chest pains while hiking Franconia Ridge.

New Hampshire Fish and Game received a call about the incident around 4:00 p.m. The hiker was ascending the Falling Waters Trail and crossing Franconia Ridge with another person when the chest pain began, according to police.

Police determined that it would take “numerous hours” to reach the hikers on foot, so Fish and Game requested assistance from the NH Army National Guard. A helicopter and flight crew were dispatched and flew to the summit of Mount Lincoln.

The crew lowered a medic to the hikers, hoisted them into the helicopter, and transported them to a hospital by 6:05 p.m.
