Vermont State Police arrested a 61-year-old driver following a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 2 in Cabot. Trooper Katie Finn, stationed at the Berlin Barracks, responded to the scene shortly before 8:45 p.m. on June 5.
Rimal was driving a 2013 Subaru Impreza when he crashed along the roadway. Weather conditions were cloudy and road surfaces remained dry at the time of the incident. The vehicle sustained enough damage to be declared a total loss.
Troopers found no injuries among the occupants. Rimal, who resides in Essex Junction, was wearing his seat belt during the crash. Police reported that none of the passengers required hospital transport.
After arriving at the scene, officers spoke with Rimal and noted signs of impairment. He subsequently agreed to field sobriety tests. Based on these results and his physical appearance, Trooper Finn placed him under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) second offense.
Rimal was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing. Officers booked him without incident before releasing him with a citation. He must appear in Washington Superior Court to answer the charge.
The court hearing is scheduled for June 25 at 8:30 a.m. in the Criminal Division. The Vermont Superior Court retains the right to adjust this schedule, so drivers should contact the clerk’s office to confirm the final time before appearing.
