At approximately 8:56 PM on May 30, Newport Police and emergency crews responded to a call on Route 5 in Newport where a patient was refusing transport to the hospital. The patient indicated she would not leave until an individual was removed from her residence. Upon arrival, first responders found a crowd outside the residence yelling at the ambulance. The patient remained inside the ambulance as police worked to de-escalate the situation.
At approximately 9:11 PM, responding officers spoke with the landlord, who indicated that the patient was willing to go inside to secure her residence and then reconsider transport. Police planned to accompany her inside. Further updates are pending.
